North, South Korea to Hold Family Reunions

North and South Korea agreed Tuesday to hold a reunion event for families divided by the decades-long conflict between the two nations.
The event is the second of its kind since 2010, and will include 100 participants from each side of the border, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, the reunions will take place from October 20 to 26 in a resort at Mount Kumgang.

Previous reunion events have drawn massive public attention in South Korea, drawing tens of thousands of applicants. According to Yonhap, close to 66,000 South Koreans are already on waiting lists to be temporarily reunited with relatives in the North.
The agreement is the result of bilateral talks between South Korea and North Korea (DPRK), after weeks of tension.
Since late last month the two sides have traded barbs over allegations of border aggression. The DPRK has accused South Korea of using loudspeakers to broadcast propaganda over the border, while Seoul has responded by claiming Pyongyang has fired shells across the frontier.

The DPRK and South Korea have shared an uneasy truce since 1953. Although the truce brought an end to three years of war, relations since have oscillated between joint moves towards rapprochement, and hostile saber rattling.
